Hello dear readers,
If I see crafters, I see these: Journaling cards.
They are easy and fun to use and there are 1000 online.
You can buy them from various people and some have them online for free.
But what if no-one has the ones you want?
This was my problem. I love black and white journaling cards.
They don't grab all the attention, which is nice if I have things on them or around them (like I have when I am working on a Project Life album).
They are also friendly for the inkt in my printer and I can use my colored pens and washi tape on them without it looking ugly.
But I couldn't find them anywhere, so I couldn't do anything with them.
So I started to search for ways to make them myself and if it was easy to do.
Let's do a short tutorial about how I did this:
(I use Photofilter, which is free)
Step 1:
Make a new file in Photofilter with the following measurements.
Make sure you have the size on inches and use Width 4 and Height 3 for a horizontal card and Width 3 and Height 4 for a vertical card.
I made a vertical card (eventhough the picture suggest otherwise).
Step 2:
Let's make a roundish line on the card:
Click on the button with the arrow, check Stroke(second arrow) and make sure you use the color black. We are going to make a roundisch border because it looks nice and it markes the space we can use!
You can make the border anyway you want, but try to make it even, quite big, but not all the way to the edge.
Stap 3:
Now you choose the character you wanna work with. I have been to the Disney Pixar movie Inside out today, so I wanna have a Journaling card for this. Let's got to google and search for an Inside out Coloring page:
Let's take the upper left picture with Sadness and Joy. We can see it's an official one. You can use anything you want, just keep in mind that all the pictures are probably copyrighted. You can't sell these as your own, but you can use them for privat use.
Make sure the picture is big enough and copy it into Photofilter. We now erase the stuff we don't wanna have on our Journaling Card:
(Again: the picture is from Disney! I only erase the copyright because it's for private use!)
Step 4:
Now we can fit the picture into our journaling card:
Make the picture the size you wanna use and drag it to where you wanna have it.
Now you click onto the picture layer on the left and get out your eraser. We are going to make sure you can see the roundish border behind our ladies. This will give a nice effect.
As you can see I erased the white behind the characters, so you can see the border go behind them.
Step 5:
If you want you can now put some text onto the card. It could be a quote from the movie or you can write stuff in like: To DO, Memo, Notes, etc.
Step 6:
Last thing we do is make a border around the whole picture. This will make it easy to cut out the picture after printing it.
Choose the button with the arrow and make sure stroke is checked again. Also check if your color is still black!
Now you are going to put your arrow in the right low corner and drag it to the left to make a square. This will make our border.
And this is the end result!
When you wanna print your cards, just choose four and drag them into a Word file. They will have the exact size you want them in!
I hope you liked this tutorial and I love to hear more ideas!
Ofcourse you can also use this tutorial to make other journaling cards with your own drawings or only Memo or to do lists!
Ik hoop dat deze tutorial handig was en ik hoor graag andere ideeën.
Uiteraard kun je deze tutorial ook gebruiken voor eigen gemaakte plaatjes of alleen voor dingen als Memo of To Do lists!
